Welcome to the newest edition of the Changing Maine Directory! This is the online version of the seventh edition of a directory of non-profit, grassroots, progressive, social change and social service organizations and agencies throughout the State of Maine. Previously called the Maine Alternative Yellow & Green Pages, our first edition came out in 1986, and has been updated periodically throughout the years to keep listings current and up to date. Here you will find organizations both small and large working for social change, some of which are not listed in any other place.
The groups listed in the directory are working to create and sustain paths toward a saner, healthier, world. They are confronting negligence and injustice in our society by working within existing institutions and organizing outside those institutions to meet the real needs of Maine people, our communities, and the environment.
What makes a group appropriate for inclusion in this directory? Our primary guideline for CMD listings is that the groups are not organized for profit and that they are CHANGING MAINE by working in some way to solve community problems and to provide for the needs and well-being of the people of Maine.
