AMHC's Sexual Assault Services provides support, education and advocacy services to persons in Aroostook, Hancock, and Washington Counties by: providing free sexual assault and/or sexual abuse crisis intervention and support services to individuals, family members or significant others who have been sexually assaulted or sexually harassed, either recently or in the past; recruiting community volunteers to provide direct services; conducting public and allied professional education on sexual assault issues; conducting school-based education on sexual assault, sexual abuse and sexual harassment; and maintaining a Sexual Assault Victim's Fund to purchase items and/or services that directly benefit sexual assault victims in crisis situations.

Aroostook State Park

Description

Aroostook State Park is a 904-acre (366 ha) protected area of Aroostook County, Maine. Located off U.S. Route 1 on the south side of Presque Isle, the park encompasses Quaggy Jo Mountain and Echo Lake. "Quaggy Jo" is an altered version of the mountain's Native American name, "Qua Qua Jo," which means "twin-peaked."

Aroostook Valley Trail

Description

Aroostook Valley Trail is a 28 mile trail that connects the towns of Presque Isle, Caribou, Washburn, Woodland, and New Sweden. Riders will find a gravel surface trail that is open to multiple use, year round. Scenery varies from open fields to deep woods, and meanders along many streams and the Aroostook River. Most of this trail is very remote and riders should be prepared for a backcountry experience.

ARRT! collaborates with 40+ non-profit, progressive groups to promote social change in Maine. This collective of approximately twelve artists meets monthly to create issue-oriented, socially engaged banners and props. Grants have enabled them to pay artists stipends, making them engaged activists, able to reconcile sophisticated aesthetic goals with political objectives, while collaborating with diverse artists and non-artists alike. Arts Are Elementary (AAE)

Description

AAE provides each kindergarten through fifth grade classroom in Brunswick with a visiting artist whose residency connects directly with the Brunswick School Department curriculum. Typically, each residency is broken up into 3 or 4 45 minute-1 hour sessions presented over the course of 2-4 weeks. When a residency lends itself to a culminating event, such as a concert, exhibit or demonstration, AAE works with the schools and the artist to make that happen.
