SafeBAE’s 1st ever student planned regional summit on sexual assault prevention, “CONSENT: The Way Life Should Be” will be on May 22, 2019, from 8:30-2 at Southern Maine Community College in South Portland, Maine. This event is ENTIRELY FREE and open to any students with the ability to travel to South Portland. Educators and caregivers are also welcome to join.
The planning committee is a collective of students from area schools, with the support of an adult advisory board, including Senator Rebecca Millett who is working with the student committee to draft consent education legislation in Maine. There will be large presentations, smaller breakout plenaries, as well as Quiz Bombs with prizes from sponsors (Thrive Causemetics, Something’s Fishy, Conscious Inc. and more!), a Volkswagen bus selfie photobooth, free tailgate lunch, and much more! We will be joined by Pretty Little Liars actress, Torrey DeVitto and retired NFL linebacker and survivor, Reggie Walker, to speak about their experiences growing up and present about active bystander leadership. The day will culminate with a call to action for all attendees to take what they’ve learned throughout the day and become active bystanders and sexual assault/harassment prevention advocates in their schools moving forward. They will be given the tools and resources to continue the conversations in their schools for years to come.
